Particitation is different form interactive art, because there is communication between people rather than just objects.
Martha Rosler ‘Monumental Garage Sale’ 1973 – Clothing, books, toys, and household items were sold alongside personal items such as the artist’s private letters; her son’s baby shoes. The sale was recreated in 2012 and titles ‘Meta-Monumental Garage Sale’
Helio Oiticica ‘Parangoles’ 1964–79 – The Parangolés are capes, flags, banners and tents made from layers of painted fabric, plastics, mats, screens, ropes and other materials. Literally habitable paintings, they were designed to be worn or carried while dancing to the rhythm of samba.
Suzanne Lacy ‘Crystal Quilt’ 1987 -This performance piece involved 430 women over the age of 60 gathered to share their views on growing older. It was broadcast live on television and attended by over 3,000 people. The ‘Crystal Quilt’ now exists in the form of a video, documentary, quilt, photographs and sound piece.
